The Wild Goose Lake
Directed by Diao Yinan
China, France / 113 mins / Rating TBC
Mid-level gang leader Zhou Zenong returns from prison to continue his work in the underworld. After a violent territorial disagreement and a botched assassination attempt, Zenong finds himself on the run with a hefty bounty on his head. With the help of mysterious “bathing beauty” Liu Aiai, can he escape his fatalistic destiny?
Diao Yinan continues his winning streak with dark crime thrillers, and his latest offering has all the winning formulas for a noir. He infuses a sense of realism and surrealism as only he knows how. As one of only two Asian films in competition for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Diao has cemented himself as one of the most important Chinese filmmakers today.
