SYNOPSIS

In an Istanbul prison, Zakir is tasked with reading the inmates’ letters and censoring all questionable content. Outside his day job, Zakir enjoys writing. One day, he notes a small detail in one of the letters and that incites a morbid, sleuth-like writer’s obsession. He soon gets ensnared in a fiction of his own making, unable to maintain the cool balance and stoic exterior he gets by with.

With an unflinchingly austere lens, Karaaslan puts audience through a discomforting game of gazing and being gazed at. Expect more insinuations than revelations in this deft surveillance thriller with gray interiors, paranoia-inducing sound design and multimedia references that play on the anxieties of our truth-starved times.
